Tai Chi Dao (in Chinese) or Tai Chi Broadsword

The Dao is one of the most common weapon practiced by various school of Chinese martial arts. It dated back to China's Bronze Age when the Dao was made of bronze. However through time, it was later changed to a much stronger material such as iron and later steel. It is distinguished from the Sword in that the former has only one sharp edge and the blade broadens towards the tip and is slightly curved.

I haven't done anything like this before, what should I expect? PDF Print E-mail

The format of the class is a mixture of group practice and personal training time, which gives the opportunity for individual attention. You will be given the opportunity to ask questions and most importantly the time to absorb what is being taught. JDA Instructors are approachable and realistic as to what can be imparted within a session. You will also be supported by the friendly community of students that are drawn to training Tai Chi.

Instructors relaxing during instructor training week

Many of our instructors have had previous experience of Tai Chi, being drawn to JDIATCC by Master Ding's approach and the positive results that his teaching style brings. If, as an existing instructor, you are looking to take you and your students further into the art of Yang style Tai Chi, we would be pleased to hear from you. For more information on how to become part of our organisation please contact us by email or phone.

All our instructors have a current JDIATCC instructor's certificate, are insured and undergo regular on-going training with Master Ding.

The Snake Form : Another View PDF Print E-mail
From my perspective learning the complete Snake Form from Masters John and Alan Ding was an opportunity not to be missed. From everything that both Master Dings had told me over the years I understood that this form was the result of all those years of intensive (and often brutal) training that Grandmaster Ip Tai Tak undertook in over 30 years of almost daily one-to-one training under Great Grandmaster Yang Sau Chung. As 1st disciple, it was Master Ip’s duty to deal with the many challenge matches that took place on behalf of Master Yang Sau Chung. It was protecting the honour of the Yang family that led to Master Ip receiving a level of Yang style martial training that has rarely been seen outside of the Yang family itself. As in older times this knowledge was passed to him through hands-on application training and push hands, rather than through Form.

Open Tai Chi Retreat - August 08

It was another great retreat Open Tai Chi Retreat. We had a good mix of first timers to the retreat as well as seasoned regulars.  The weather wasn't spectacular for a British Summer, but thankfully the rain kept away for morning Chi Kung, and the sun popped out to greet us intermittently which was very welcome !

Who is Tai Chi suitable for? PDF Print E-mail

At a basic level Tai Chi is a soft flowing low impact exercise uniquely applicable to everybody regardless of age, sex or health. People have achieved great results by using Tai Chi to rebuild mental and physical strength, relieve the effects of muscle/joint disorders, lower blood pressure, manage stress and many other conditions. At more advanced levels the training can be quite vigorous and, should you want, martial. Therefore the opportunity is there to increase the scope of what you do as your strength and health improves.
