Master Ding
Master John Ding founded the John Ding International Academy of Tai Chi Chuan (JDIATCC) to preserve and promote the traditional, holistic approach of Yang style Tai Chi Chuan training, following a lifetime's pursuit of excellence in Martial Arts.

JDIATCC tai chi is characterised by a strong emphasis on building health, power and understanding of internal energy through experiential study of Tai Chi's concepts and principles. The result is a system that we hope teaches you strength and calmness in the face of all life's aspects, lightened by a true joy for living.

JDIATCC covers the entire traditional Yang style tai chi syllabus, so no matter how deeply you want to look into Tai Chi, we will be there for you. In addition you will benefit from the unique skills of this generation's JDIATCC teachers and masters who work hard to make the process fun, flexible and inclusive. To us it is all about transmission of the real skill of Tai Chi which is carried from generation to generation by the proper understanding and execution of its concepts and principles. If you are after more from your Tai Chi, look no further.

Sifu Ding & Sigung Ip
Master Ding Teah Chean (John Ding) has accumulated vast experience and understanding of internal and external Kung Fu systems through a lifelong study of martial arts. He trained at a young age under various Shaolin Kung Fu Masters reaching a high level of skill before devoting himself entirely to the internal system of martial arts. He is one of the few people to have studied intensely and successfully under all three formal disciples of the late Great Grandmaster Yang Sau Chang: Chu King Hung (3rd disciple), Chu Gin Soon (2nd disciple) and Ip Tai Tak (1st disciple). Consequently he is one of the few teachers in the West who can demonstrate the higher aspects of the art and internal energy (CHI).

On the first of January 1998 his long, deep and dedicated approach to the art of Yang Style Tai Chi was rewarded when he was accepted as the first disciple of Grandmaster Ip Tai Tak, making him a 6th Generation lineage holder of Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan through Grandmaster Ip Tai Tak.

Syllabus PDF Print E-mail

Master Ding and his senior students have spent many years researching and designing a syllabus that supports our aims of faithfully transmitting all aspects of traditional Yang style Tai Chi Chuan.

Having said that, real Tai Chi Chuan is  not simply about learning the forms. It is not merely an exercise in collecting series upon series of movements. Unfortunately many mistakenly see this hoarding behaviour, as progression and achievement. There is breadth but certainly little depth. Instead, to invest in one form is more than a lifetime's learning. True progression entails using a form as the vehicle to learn, understand and integrate Tai Chi principles and concepts. The core to having a good appreciation of Tai Chi Chuan is to have insight and understanding of the principles and concepts within a form, develop their subtleties and then translate those ideals into situations outside form practice. Conversely ultimate Tai Chi Chuan has no need for a form - it is simply applied concepts.

Therefore, although there is a structured syllabus, it can never be more than a guide. The skills you pick up and the amount of time it takes to do so will quite naturally  be affected by where you are starting your Tai Chi journey from and what your individual goals are.

The syllabus is as follows:
